Ownership:
18 Rabbits is still a small company owned and operated by founder Alison Bailey Vercruysse.
Sourcing:
We are incredibly transparent about our sources because we love to support the farmers we source from. You can see a full list of our sources at http://18rabbits.com/farmers.html. Some of our favorite farmers include Straus Family Creamery Butter, Butternut Mountain Farm Maple Syrup, and San Joaquin Fig figs.
Inspiration:
I created my own recipe for 18 Rabbits granola because I like for people to feel good—the kind of good that comes from enjoying the most delicious, most nutritious food. Like the way your favorite childhood memory gives you a spring in your step, wherever it comes to you—even as you head down a busy city street far away from where you grew up. Eat some and see where it takes you.

Have a question for us?
- How/why did you get into this business?
Because I love food and I didn’t want to go to culinary school. I never realized the value of good food until it was gone, like eating Wendy’s everyday. When I found 18 Rabbits, I thought this is what quality food is about and it’s made for everyone. Also, San Francisco is the best place to be a part of the food company. It’s great to be part of a startup so I get to learn about everything.
- What’s your favorite/least favorite part of the job?
Favorite- introducing people to the product. Seeing people taste it for the first time and talking to customers and/or buyers. Seeing how much they like our product is great.
Least favorite- doing all the accounting and the paperwork.
- What do you hope to achieve most?
Company wise- let people know that gourmet food can be healthy and taste great. Something can be fancy, healthy and taste good. Personally- I want the things I do to have a huge impact on the scope of the business. Whether it’s sales, cutting costs, or marketing I want it to have a huge impact. I want to help take the company to the next level and I want to be partly responsible for making 18 Rabbits a bigger company.
- Is there any specific style, goal, or philosophy in mind when making your products?
We want it to be and feel like it was handmade, homemade, something that’s easy for everyone to recognize as far as the ingredients. Our products are first made in the kitchen, not a lab. We want to make something that makes people feel good. It’s important to make it a really high quality product that everyone can enjoy. We want to take the best ingredients that are available and use them in a way that’s comfortable and easy for everyone to understand.
- What are your concerns/hopes for your industry?
We hope that the industry realizes that you don’t have to use crazy ingredients, you can just use things straight from the farm to make things that people love and that’s still healthy. I hope that people start to take care of the community. I want the industry to move away from being so industrialized. It can be a big company but they’re still really strong to their roots and able to put back into the earth whatever it takes.
